the reason.
CHRISTOPHETHEREASON:
LE MÉVEL
DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST
BIKE? I do. It was a white and red
Gitane and my parents gave it to
me as a birthday present. I had seen
it in a magazine and I was proud
that I got it. My first ride with my
new Gitane was with my father, and
we rode all the way to the beach.
WERE THERE OTHER CYCLISTS IN
YOUR FAMILY? No, I’m the only
serious cyclist in my family.
WHAT FIRST ATTRACTED YOU TO
RIDING? I actually tried every
other sport before I got into riding
and couldn’t find the right one.
When I was 14, I started riding
and quickly found my way.
YOUR FIRST RACE? My first race
was on a mountain bike and I won!
DO YOU PREFER TO TRAIN/RIDE
ALONE? WHY? I prefer to be alone,
or just with one other rider, when
I’m training because it’s less
dangerous, and also so I can get
into my own rhythm. I think it’s
better for me to train that way.
DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY ON
A BIKE? The perfect day for me is
leaving my house at 9 a.m., riding four
to five hours, with three or four climbs
around Lake Lugano. There is sun,
Image > Jered Gruber
no wind, and I will have a new watts
record on at least one of the climbs.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT ON
THE BIKE WHEN YOU ARE CLIMBING
IN A RACE? When I’m climbing,
I remember that I used to watch
these races on television and know
other kids are looking at me. I feel
very fortunate to race bikes and
feel like it is a very good job.
WHAT BANDS ARE YOU
LISTENING TO NOW?
I like David Guetta, The Chemical
Brothers and The Black Eyed
Peas. After races, I like to listen
to Kings of Leon. ]p[
