SUMMER
ELEMENTS
Winter, with its hours on the trainer, is a distant
memory, and the schizophrenic climate of spring
has finally given up the fight. Summer is here. No
more sweating in the basement or layering with
vests and knee warmers, pockets bulging with
unused garments by the end of the ride. The best
way we know how to celebrate is ride your bike
wearing nothing more than a great jersey and bibs,
your helmet, socks and shoes. There is nothing
better than being exposed to the elements when
those elements are 72 degrees and sunny.
We humbly bring you four of our latest favorites
for long days in the summer heat, some from
well-known names, some from stylish staples, and
some from a rather unexpected source.
Mavic Infinity Jersey and Bib Short
Both of these garments earn Mavic’s Hot Ride
designation, meaning they are designed for temperatures
of 77 degrees and up. We’ve ridden them on long climbs
approaching triple digit temperatures, and they flat out
work. They utilize hi-tech composite wicking fabrics and
light, but just right, ergo grippers. Our favorite feature?
The microscopic laser perforations that really keep air
moving around the jersey. The chamois can feel a bit thick
at first, but after a mile or so the three separate density
foams contour nicely. The straps on the bibs are extremely
elastic and comfortable, but will have you looking like a
club kid from a German rave in the early 1990s. Best keep
the jersey on in public. The fit is European race inspired,
so size up if you want a more relaxed feel. PRICES:
$179.95 (jersey); $219.95 (bib short) MORE: mavic.com
